It’s that time of year when the weather likes to play with us. A couple hours before the engagement session I checked the weather, just to be safe; 85% chance of rain between 5-7:00 pm. Smack dab in the middle of our session! I emailed Alex to let her know. Thirty minutes later? Zero percent chance of rain. Okay, weather, you’re crazy. We decided not to reschedule and take our chances. As we were nearing St. Louis, rain clouds were very evident. We could see the rain dumping on some part of the city. It looked as if the sky had opened up and it wasn’t raining, rather it was a waterfall from the sky pouring on some suburb of the city. Fortunately it looked like it was just to the west of where we would be in Lafayette Square. As long as it didn’t rain on us, I was happy. The clouds were perfect since a lot of our pictures were in open spaces and the clouds diffused the harsh sunlight. This really helped the pictures turn out amazing. On top of that, the park was so full of color it was almost surreal how vibrant the colors were. In the pictures, the location was looking like a wonderland, I was loving it. I especially loved it because many of the spots we chose were literally within a few steps of each other. We’d walk a few steps, shoot, walk a few steps shoot. I love this with city sessions because there is so much availabile to us.

On top of that, Alex and Blake were so much fun to work with. They were willing to do whatever it took to get great pictures and they were full of smiles as they looked at each other. Both of these creates a recipe for success when it comes to engagement pictures. After our time at Lafayette Park, we made our way downtown to wrap up the session in the city garden. It’s been a while since I’ve been downtown St. Louis, the location I had in mind to shoot at was gone! It was just an open dirt pit. The revamped garden area had grown so much too since last time I was there, I barely recognized where I was. Families were gathered throughout the park celebrating Memorial Day. Kids were playing in the fountains, and we were taking pictures! I don’t know what it is, but all this activity in the park excites me. I don’t know why, but there’s something about people using parks for what they were intended for that makes me happy and thankful that the city provided such a great place. And of course with the arch peaking in through some of the trees it definitely helped showcase some St. Louis into the pictures. The day was perfect, the clouds and rain brought with it slightly cooler temperatures so we weren’t miserable during the session. The location was perfect and of course Alex and Blake were a fantastic couple to work with.
