It’s February, so we are still some months away from wedding season, but Valentines Day is upon us and this is a very popular date for proposals to go happen. It’s a day of love and romance, so it makes sense that it’s a great day to drop the big question. Proposals are a time of celebration and very much a time of planning. Immediately after saying YES, the wedding planning begins. And just like a bride plans for her big day, we are preparing for the upcoming years. Where did we succeed last year? Where are some areas we can improve on? What kind of equipment upgrades are we going to get? How will we better utilize the wedding day to capture unique images?

So many questions to go over and a lot of planning to happen as well. We ended 2014 by incorporating a new style of shooting, a style that more resembled the classic film look and I’m not going to lie, I LOVE it. The colors, the contrast, the style, everything about the look I love. I feel that this was a strong area for us and we are going to continue to do everything we can to perfect this style and make it very much a part of our business model. Many photographers when they start out they want to do everything, every type of session, every type of edit, and it becomes a jumbled mess that doesn’t look consistent and it’s hard to figure out who you are going to be as a photographer. We started over 5 years ago and I feel that 2014 was the year we finally found consistency in our business model and style.

There was one area that was lacking though, hey I’m being real, we aren’t perfect. Our business management and customer service needed some work. And thankfully we found a business management tool that actually helps us nail it in both areas like a boss!! Seriously! From communication to reminders to financials, this program allows us to do everything possible. It’s call 17Hats and it is amazing. Moving forward we’ll be able to keep in constant communication with couples without the busyness of day to day responsibilities and other sessions getting in the way.

I have a feeling that 2015 is going to be a fantastic year! We have a lot of new thing planned for the year that are going to help not just on the business side but also on the photography side of things (like a new 5K iMac computer!). Better business practices, better tools for pictures, and better shooting methods, it all makes for another year of growth and pushing towards bigger and better things! As I have said since I started the business: The only constant is change. And that’s exactly what we are doing.
