One of my favorite things about running my own photography business is that it’s always evolving, especially as trends tend to change how we view certain things. For example, six years ago, wedding photography was all about the outdoor pictures. I mean, there was a time where I needed around 90 minutes for outdoor pictures with a lot of focus on big pictures full of scenery or architecture. Don’t get me wrong, I still aim for large pictures, but for the most part the trend today is to keep it more candid and focus more on the actual moments that are happening rather than creating the moments. I’m totally okay with this because the thing that drives me the most with photography storytelling. So I’m really digging this trend of spending less time outside and more time with guests. These make for some great candid images. The morning of Alison and Jake’s wedding was full of laughter and fun moments. I love this time of the wedding as it we are able to tell such an important story of the wedding day. Prep time is literally about half the day for a bride, so telling this story is super important. As the day carried on, the ceremony began, and it was such a perfect ceremony. After they were announced as husband and wife, they exited the church through a line of guests all ready to blast confetti at them. There was a LOT of confetti too! I mean, a lot!

Afterward we spent a little time outside getting pictures of the two of them as well as their wedding party. We maybe spent 30 minutes outside, again compare this to the 90 minutes I required just a handful of years ago! It was a perfect amount of time and pictures went great. We did pictures in the shade of an old barn. In the shade, it felt great outside. Step out into the sunlight, it was a noticeable difference in temperature. It’s amazing how that works. After some outdoor pictures, we got ready for the reception. Our flashes were ready, the guests were ready, and the wedding party entered the hall to get the party started. What a fun time their reception was to photograph. The hall was full of laughter, good times and dancing. It was such a fun celebration and a ton of fun to photograph.
