This past weekend was a weekend of fun sessions for me. From family, to pinup and fashion, and with Ashten’s we nailed down a fashion and senior session in one sitting. First of all the senior session. Working with Ashten, I knew it would be a great time. Having worked with the family for Calee’s senior session (and wedding) as well as Ashlee’s senior session, I was definitely looking forward to working with Ashten. You could not have asked for a better day either. A cool, Fall evening as the sun was setting provided the perfect weather for the session, and the lighting? Wow! Everything was on point.

Most of the session, we spent on the family property, it’s just perfect for pictures, providing everything from a lake view with plenty of fall colors in the background to a nice view of the sunset shining on the evergreens. This was a different session for me because posing was much more on my mind than trying to capture “candid” moments. As we transition into 2015 soon, I’m looking for another area of my business to grow and posing is where I feel I can step it up. So unlike most senior sessions where we just click away, we spent more time setting up poses and less time shooting. Get the pose, take the shot and Boom! You’re done (with that pose at least). Ashten seemed to work right through it though, no matter how awkward the poses felt she owned them. The entire shoot, I had a vision for a pose, when I would tell Ashten what to do, she took my vision and made it even better. I’m very happy with the way they turned out.

On to the fashion portion. I’ve had this itch to try a couple pictures, a Gatsby inspired image and a noir inspired image. I say inspired because I didn’t want it to be replicas, or mimics of those looks but inspired by them. The first one we had an old school chair provided by the Odd Bin and Ashten in a blingy gold dress. It was perfect. However this picture, is going to include a lot more photoshop than I usually do so I’ll save it for another posting. The noir inspired photo was a lot of fun. Since we don’t live in a city, downtown St. Elmo had to work, and honestly I’m pretty happy with the way it looked. The street lights were glowing, the sky was dark, the road had a gleam on it that allowed for some amazing reflections of lights. It turned out great, and I’m super happy with it.
