Indoor family sessions couldn’t be any more fun. I remember when I was pretty new in photography, the thought of doing indoor pictures was something I refused to do. They intimidated me, they scared me, there was no way I was about to do sessions inside. Like most new photographers, I needed lots of sunlight in order for me to do my job. I did not fully understand light and how to read it, and I only partially new flash photography, but not well enough. Fast forward nine years and indoor sessions are some of my favorite. I have a much better grasp on light and find myself even in my free time looking for the best light and/or best natural reflectors. When the Brooks family asked me to do their family pictures, I was so excited to have the opportunity. Austin and I grew up together back in our younger days and now that we are old, bald men with families, it’s so great having the chance to reconnect and photograph his family. During their family session, we explored the house, going from the living room, front room and bedrooms, we were all over. This is the other thing I love about indoor family sessions, it’s all about capturing life, and when life involves a toddler, nothing about it is at a standstill, so, of course, the session models this same type of energy and attention span. Honestly, this is one of the things I love most about these types of sessions.
