Just like photography, we strive to up the ante each and every wedding. I never want to be a photographer/videographer that gets in a habit of doing something one way because I know it works. Sure, to an extant I will do things consistently so that it reflects the quality I desire with my branding, and I will shoot in a way that I will know will produce the best results, but what I mean is, I don’t want what I do to become cookie cutter. Trust me, there are enough cookie cutter videographers out there to choose from, and I don’t want to be a part of that mix. It’s at that point that you start to tumble down a slippery slope of becoming outdated. I want to be sure we are providing not only great quality, but videos that are going to reflect today’s day and age. With Melissa and Wes’ wedding we wanted to focus a little closer on the details of the day, and I don’t mean the flowers, rings, shoes, etc. They are important, no doubt, but I wanted to see the details of the emotions; facial expressions in particular. We mounted on some zooms, set up the tripods and shot in a way where each emotion was captured and little whispers to one another we captured as well, whether it was by a microphone, or simply being able to read their lips. Granted, some couples this type of shooting won’t work. It has to flow with the day and thankfully it was perfect for Wes and Melissa’s big day. They were such a happy couple and full of love! It was this type of emotion I was wanting to capture in the video. I wanted to make it a more romantic video than what we’ve done previously.

Music is a big part of a wedding video these days as well. I typically aim to stylize my videos from a music perspective from hollywood films, and when listening to music it obviously has to go with the them of the wedding day and fit for our video, and because of this, it tends to be the most time consuming responsibility for me. I put a lot of pressure on myself to pick the right song for the trailer AND the feature film. As I was listening to music, I noticed I was leaning toward the dramatic music a little more, but I didn’t want something that sounded like the hero death scene in a movie because that’s the vibe it gave out and I noticed that it was this type of music I was listening to. I was about to give up on the dramatic style until I hear the song I have featured in their trailer. I heard it and it immediately made me thing of American Beauty by Thomas Newton (the plastic bag scene). I love this song, I have a weird obsession with movie scores, and for legal reasons I could never use that song, but when I heard this one, I thought it was a perfect fit and it was legal, so even better.

Melissa and Wes were a joy to work with. Their wedding day was perfect and the reception was fantastic. The uplighting provided by Terry Hopper with Anatime Entertainment lit the room in a way that made the KC Hall look classy, and allowed the colors to pop in the video. Overall, it was a fantastic day and we were so excited to be filming it. The feature film is nearly complete, but until this, here’s the teaser.
