Coming into 2020, I have been reflecting on what about me, as a business owner, a photographer has changed that shouldn’t have changed? Are you following me? I mean, what is something I used to do that I stopped doing that I probably shouldn’t have stopped doing. One thing that came to mind is that I don’t really do pictures on my own, for fun. It’s not like I didn’t want to, the problem is, as a business owner, I wear 45 different hats. I’m the photographer, the marketer, bookkeeper, CEO, CFO, janitor, and so on. Coming into 2020, one of the things I wanted to change about everything I do was K.I.S.S., my office fans will get this, Keep It Simple Stupid. That’s my motto for 2020. I’m the type of person that will overcomplicate something in a heartbeat. Tell me to build a house and I’ll draw up plans for a new skyscraper. I don’t know why, but that’s what I do. I’m a dreamer, and I like to dream big. Unfortunately, the downside to that is sometimes I dream up so much that I never actually do anything. It’s not that I’m killing any of my dreams, KISS to me is more about while I’m dreaming, I’m also doing, and when I’m doing, I’m not overcomplicating my actions. Small steps over time lead to a great distance. I wanted to get back to doing pictures for fun. Sometimes it might involve people, but most of the time, it’s going to be of things. Recently, I bought a couple of packs of playing cards. Natasha and I met each other while playing card games, so maybe when it comes to playing cards, I have a soft spot for them because of that? I’m not sure, but when I see a good pack of playing cards, it’s hard to say no. I found these from a company, Theory 11. As I scanned their site, it was hard not buying all of the packs they offer. They are so cool. Even better, their business model, the quality of product they offer has inspired me so much with my business. I wanted to create a little set that included mostly black with a little bit of metal and a lot of light. When I think of Star Wars, I think of dark tones, metals, and lights. From the lights of the ship exterior and interior to the lights of the lightsabers to the flares of JJ Abrams in the most recent episodes. I set up a mini studio made up of a camera case, an aquarium cage top, a paint roller pan, a metal print, and a lamp. It was fun breaking my normal cycle to take a little bit of my day to simply create. It fueled me and reminded me of one reason why I love what I do.
