Last year I had the amazing honor of photographing Sam and Shayla’s engagement pictures. They were such a fun couple to photograph and I was so bummed at the time that I would not be photographing their wedding because at the time I wasn’t available. However with some changes in schedule, we talked at the bridal expo and Shayla asked if I knew of anyone that did wedding video. I explained to her that I do wedding video and it just so happened I was available on her wedding day, and next thing we knew June was here and we were shooting Sam and Shayla’s wedding video.

For me, this was my first wedding video I got to shoot as the “director” if you will. In the past, I’ve hired someone to shoot video as I shot photos. This worked out alright, but it was impossible for me to coordinate both. I decided at the beginning of this year I did not want to coordinate both. Would I love to shoot both video and photo for a couple? Absolutely, but you’re either in 100% or you’re not and I wanted to be giving it my all in one area. So Sam and Shayla trusted us with their wedding video and I’m so thrilled that they did! Video is such a different venture for us, but yet it’s not that different at all. It’s not that different in the sense that we are using the same equipment (plus stability – tripod, monopod, glidecam, etc – and audio) and same photographic knowledge to film. But it’s so different because with video we are more a fly on the wall shooting the moments rather than coordinating everything like we do with video. Don’t get me wrong though – we aren’t lazy at shooting video – we still very much directed moments that we needed. Plus, there’s seeing the moments in live action rather than pictures was very new and very exciting. 🙂

The wedding day was absolutely perfect as well. The weather was fantastic, the church was beautiful and the reception ran very smoothly and it all made for a perfect wedding day and I’m so happy that we were able to capture this perfection on “film.” Congratulations Sam and Shayla!
